Abstract
Quantitative measurement of the serum immune globulin (Ig G, Ig A and Ig M) were conducted on 32 typhoid fever patients, ranging in age from 17 to 57 years, who were treated at the Seoul National University Hospital.
Their diagnoses consisted, of clinical, serological and bacteriological check-ups. Lim¡¯s method was used in calculating levels of immune globulin, i.e. IgG, IgA, and IgM, in serum.
Comparisons were also made between diphtheria, epidemic hemorrhagic fever patients and typhoid fever patients with regard to immune globulins, and between healthy Korean and Western people with reference to immune globulin.
1. Immune globulin levels in the serum of typhoid fever patients were as follows:
a. Ig G value is 2,122.5 mg¡¾ 286.4 mg/100 ml (S.D.)
b. Ig A value is 327.0 mg ¡¾ 147.3 mg/100 ml (S.D.)
c. Ig M value is 102.4 mg¡¾ 28.6 mg/100 ml (S.D.),
2. Ig G levels in the serum of typhoid fever patients were higher than was the case with healthy Koreans and Westerners as well as diphtheria patients, but lower compared to epidemic hemorrhagic fever patients.
3. Ig A levels in typhoid fever patients were higher than in healthy Koreans and Westerners, as well as diphtheria patients, but lower as compared with epidemic hemorrhagic fever patients.
4. Ig M levels in typhoid fever patients were higher than in healthy Koreans, about the same as in healthy Westerners, but lower than in patients of both diphtheria and epidemic hemorrhagic fever.
